This course includes an introduction to electronic spreadsheets and how they are used, the difference between text, numbers, and calculating in Excel, creating and using formulas, right and wrong ways to enter a formula (and why, copying and pasting, drag and drop editing, formatting, printing working with columns and rows, absolute references and an introduction to charts.

This is an in-person offering. This can be offered as a self-paced, online format. Please note that each module requires an in-person proctored exam.

How are your money management skills?

This course will build the groundwork to move students from financial muddling to confident budgeters with money saved to invest for their future. Students will set short term and long term goals for their financial success. They will create a budget that they can stick with. They will learn the ins and outs of credit - how they are evaluated, what to do to improve their credit score, and how to use it wisely. Students will also become more savvy consumers.

This course will prepare them for more saving and investing, which is covered in the second phase of this class. 

This course is offered as part of our Adult Education High School, as well as to the general public for just $20.

HiSET

Receive individual or small group academic assistance in preparation to take the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test). Reading, writing, math, social studies, and science foundational help is provided. Students working towards the HiSET are required to attend HiSET learning labs for a minimum of eight hours of preparation. All the HiSET students must meet with the intake counselor, complete the CASAS assessment and the five HiSET practice tests. This will be followed up with an individual plan based on student academic needs. All of the HiSET testing is done at our Augusta location and is free of charge.

Math for the Trades

This course is designed for students who are interested in a career in the trades or entering trade school, but would benefit from a comprehensive review of basic math skills necessary to succeed. Students will have the opportunity to practice fundamental math skills including working with fractions, decimals and percentages. Students will also have the opportunity to practice measurement, conversions and working with formulas, including basic trigonometry.

Northstar Digital Literacy defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. Online, self-guided modules assess the ability of individuals to perform tasks based on these skills. Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in three main areas:

Essential Computer Skills - Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS

Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs

Using Technology in Daily Life - Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Accessing Telehealth Appointments, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Your Digital Footprint.
